What to Know About the 2023 Mazda CX-90

There’s been nothing but rumors swirling around Mazda’s up and coming three-row SUV. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 will be one of many from the automaker to amplify its plug-in hybrid powertrain. Although, there is an inline-six engine set for the Japanese automaker’s future lineup that’s eager to take the world by storm. The Mazda CX-90 will premiere on January 31 (2023). However, before the big launch, Mazda released a few more tantalizing details about the three-row SUV. 

Stay Away from the 89-Octane 

According to the automakers of ‘Zoom-Zoom,’ the CX-90 will roar to life through a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six engine. The turbocharged engine will be the most powerful gas engine the roadster maker has ever mass-produced. In addition, the inline-six engine will render 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque through premium fuel. That’s right, don’t be an 89-octane kind of person; anything other than premium interrupts the CX-90’s true potential. Nonetheless, there’s nothing wrong with regular gas, but we will have to wait and see the output numbers.

Hybrid Power 

In addition, the new inline-sic is also a half-breed hybrid, so technically, there’s no driving on electric power alone. The 3.3-liter engine will pair with a 48-volt hybrid system. What remains uncertain is how Mazda will employ the hybrid system, but it parallels other 480 volt setups used throughout the automotive industry. Furthermore, the automaker’s new hybrid system can ignite stop-start usage in traffic and gives the engine the power to turn off when coasting or braking, all in the name of heightened fuel efficiency. 

The Japanese automaker insists that the inline-six was designed exclusively for the future three-row SUV’s longitudinal-engine platform. However, the engine platform will likely revive itself inside the CX-90’s baby brethren, the CX-70. Expect more details on the Mazda CX-70 later down the road in 2023.

Kinematic Posture Control 

Before Mazda’s final closing statements, the automaker mentioned Kinematic Posture Control. Initially, Kinematic Posture Control premiered on the MX-5 Miata, but it enhances cornering stability by braking the inside rear wheel during a turn. The Kinematic Posture Control will come standard on all variations of the CX-90.
