First of all, let’s wrap our heads around the fact that it’s been eight years since Mazda stole our hearts with the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata. The iconic roadster debuted at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, but today we bite our nails in excitement as spy photographers capture snaps of the next-generation roadster.

Jogging around in the exterior body of the current Mazda MX-5, photographers captured the spy photos during testing in Germany. Others may argue that the prototype isn’t worth appreciating, but that’s a claim only an inexperienced enthusiast would make. Take a closer look, and the future roadster revealed extended rear fenders that imply a wider rear track.

Although there isn’t much more that we can see, the Miata prototype affirms that expansion is erupting, and the production model should break the internet in the next few years. Unfortunately, there’s little to nothing we can elaborate on, but the Mazda Miata may continue to employ its rear-wheel drive platform that’s fully equipped to handle a fun time

There’s also the possibility that Mazda will get hip with the times and equip the MX-5 with the SKYACTIV-X powertrain. However, the juries still out on the SKYACTIV engine, but we look forward to experiencing an engine that guarantees a petrol-oriented performance and diesel-minded efficiency

The SKYACTIV-X’s performance exists thanks to the Spark Controlled Compression Ignition technology. In addition, the Spark Controlled Compression Ignition technology ensures it will increase power and torque, all while decreasing fuel consumption by 20-30 percent

“Skyactiv-X uses a spark to ignite only a small, dense amount of the fuel-air mix in the cylinder. This raises the temperature and pressure so that the remaining fuel-air mix ignites under pressure (like a diesel), burning faster and more completely than in conventional engines.”

Other rumors surrounding the Mazda MX-5 include the addition of mild-hybrid technology, and that’s something everyone’s looking forward to in this time of sustainability. Eventually, more news for the next generation MX-5 Miata will find its way to us, but for now, the roadster may arrive as early as 2024 as a 2025 model.
