The Mazda CX-60 Reveals There’s More to Come From the Automakers of Zoom-Zoom

Now that Mazda’s headed upstream to the opulence department. The European market’s CX-60 gives us a glimpse at what to expect for the CX-70, and let’s just say we’re anything but disappointed. 

Resting on the Japanese automaker’s new Skyactiv architecture, the CX-60 is one of many horizontal engines SUVs inching Mazda one step closer to other premium contenders. In addition, the US will inherit a wider SUV for a more commanding presence. 

Open the doors of the Mazda CX-60, and the interior entangles a lush modern Japanese design. For instance, the Takumi trim encapsulates a wood door trim, a dashboard with woven fabric, and a multitude of shiny metal accents reminiscent of a 1950s Cadillac. Standard features for the European-based SUV include digital instruments and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. 

Mazda is the master of powertrains. Although the CX-60 has yet to attain a base powerplant, when the US inherits the CX-70, they will receive a naturally-aspirated 3.0-liter inline-six engine. Additionally, the naturally aspirated eliminates the turbocharged engine to employ variable compression. 

Eventually, the European market will have the opportunity to acquire the new 3.3-liter e-SKyactiv D diesel-six engine but not the US. Furthermore, power and torque ratings have yet to be released. 

Anyone in love with the engine will surely fall head over heels for the Mazda SUV’s chassis. For instance, CX-60 enthusiasts stress less even with the vehicle’s shape and size because the SUV’s resilient against understeering. Furthermore, the Mazda CX-60’s ride quality is firmer than a mattress; even with 20-inch wheels, the SUV has no problem with body control during hard cornering. 

Even though the Mazda CX-70 and eventually the CX-90 are entirely different vehicles, the CX-60 provides enthusiasts a first glimpse of the automaker’s new architecture. However, even with the beautifully designed structure, we look forward to experiencing the all-new inline-six engine.
