Mazda will be offering a custom MX-5 Miata for people with disabilities. Changes to the sports car will allow those with physical impairments to enjoy the automaker’s most iconic vehicle. As one of Mazda’s most popular vehicles, the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata has enjoyed new improvements and updates. Some of these include Kinematic Posture Control for better stability and an updated manual transmission. There have even been hints of a possible hybrid variant. With so many improvements to the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mazda has created an excellent opportunity for those who would otherwise be unable to drive such an exciting sports car. We’ll look at the MX-5 Miata and see how Mazda made it more accessible.
Mazda MX-5 Miata Made More AccessibleÂ
Mazda will offer a custom 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata for people with disabilities. The custom sports car will feature a control grip next to the center console. This grip serves as a lever that replaces the accelerator and brakes. Drivers can pull the lever to speed up and push it to slow down. There’s also an optional rotating knob on the steering wheel that allows for one-handed steering. Mazda wanted to ensure that the MX-5 Miata would accommodate various people regardless of disability. The sports car also features a right-hand version, the self-empowerment driving vehicle.
The 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata comes with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that delivers 181 horsepower and 151lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Known for its smooth handling and agility, the Miata proves to be highly capable with up to 7,500 rpm. Mazda has also enhanced the sports car to feature better control when cornering. Given its accessibility features, those with disabilities can take advantage of the Mazda MX-5 Miata and enjoy it to its full potential.
Owners of the custom MX-5 will also note a storage compartment for a wheelchair in the passenger seat. A cover is available for it. A side support is also available, which makes it easier to get into and out of the car. Those interested in the custom Mazda MX-5 Miata will be happy to note that it’s about $2,500 for the add-ons. At a starting MSRP of $28,315 (plus destination fee), the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata proves to be a competent sports car that has been made available for everyone. Mazda also has plans to make similar modifications to other vehicles within its lineup, like the MX-30 and CX-5.
