Mazda Confirms New Hybrid I6 Engine Will Come to U.S

Mazda’s powerful inline-six hybrid engine is coming to the United States. As confirmed by a Mazda spokesperson, the hybrid engine used in the all-new 2023 Mazda CX-60 will make its way to the U.S. The hybrid CX-60 is set to be the Japanese automaker’s most powerful SUV yet. While Mazda recently released the rugged CX-50, the automaker has not stopped working on new SUVs like the CX-80 and CX-90. In moving toward hybrid vehicles, it seems Mazda wants to improve upon its all-electric MX-30, which received criticism for its lackluster range. With its new hybrid engines, Mazda has found a way to offer increased power and performance. We’ll look at the hybrid I6 engine and see what consumers can expect.

U.S Will Receive Hybrid I6 Engine

As confirmed by a Mazda spokesperson, the powerful hybrid inline-six (I6) engine will come to the United States. Equipped in the all-new 2023 Mazda CX-60, the I6 is a 3.3L engine with a total output of 280 horsepower and 331lb-ft of torque. This output is achieved by combining the 3.3L with a 129kW electric motor. This combination will make the CX-60 one of Mazda’s most powerful vehicles yet. The Japanese automaker is aiming to implement its hybrid technology into future vehicles. If successful, Mazda can drastically increase performance and range, especially in all-electric cars like the MX-30.

While Mazda has committed itself to creating a lineup of hybrids and EVs by 2035, the automaker is focusing on hybrid technology. The 2022 MX-30 was Mazda’s first all-electric vehicle, and while it embodied the qualities Mazda is known for, it left a lot to be desired. For one, its battery range was severely limited, offering only 100 miles of range. To increase its range, Mazda turned to plug-in hybrid technology. By attaching a rotary engine to the electric motor and battery, the MX-30 will increase its battery range.

Mazda’s following vehicles are sure to see some version of hybrid technology. With the CX-80 and CX-90 being revealed, it’s expected that both will offer a hybrid setup. While Mazda has not confirmed any of the specifications, Mazda’s spokesperson said that information would be forthcoming. Both SUVs are expected to arrive on a new platform that will increase the overall size of the vehicles. All-wheel drive is also likely to come standard. We’ll have to wait for more information, but it seems that Mazda’s new vehicles will undoubtedly offer impressive performance and capability.
