2023 Mazda CX-60 to Feature New Facial Recognition Technology
As of late, Mazda has been teasing one of their all-new SUVs, the 2023 Mazda CX-60. Information about the new SUV has been slow and methodical as Mazda riles up enthusiasm and excitement. Details about the 2023 CX-60’s powertrain have been released and as Mazda promised, it will feature a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. This unique PHEV system has been long promised to accompany future Mazda models as a way to increase capability and extend range. This is especially true for the all-electric MX-30 which, although it has been well-received, has seen one of its biggest complaints be in reference to its minimal range. This new PHEV system will greatly improve the MX-30’s battery range. In addition to the new PHEV, the 2023 CX-60 will also come equipped with some new technology features like facial recognition. We’ll explore more of the new features slated to arrive with the new Mazda CX-60, but so far, it’s looking to redefine the Mazda experience.
2023 Mazda CX-60 to Feature New Technology
The all-new Mazda CX-60 is set to debut later in 2023. Mazda has been slowly dripping information about the new SUV to generate more excitement. In a time of innovation and ingenuity, it seems that many automakers are working to improve their lineup. Many automakers have been working toward electric vehicles as a way to reduce global carbon emissions. Mazda has made progress with its own EV, the MX-30, but now the automaker is looking for a way to drastically improve the electric crossover’s capabilities. The solution? A plug-in hybrid system (PHEV).
The 2023 Mazda CX-60 will come equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine capable of 300 horsepower. This will be paired with Mazda’s new PHEV system which will utilize a 17.8kWh onboard battery to deliver an extra 39 miles of range. This combination of an engine with an electric motor will provide owners with a smoother driving experience as well as the ability to save on fuel. Along with the new PHEV system, the 2023 Mazda CX-60 will also feature a new facial recognition system. This recognition system will enable drivers to automate their seating position as well as their steering wheel.
New Mazda ‘Driver Personalization System’
Mazda’s new facial recognition system uses an onboard camera to detect a driver’s eyes. Named the Driver Personalization System, Mazda has stated that this camera can, “adjust the driver seat, steering wheel, head-up display, and door mirrors to match the driver’s eye line for a suggested optimal driving position.” The technology can recognize up to six different drivers and there are about 250 different adjustments that the system can memorize.
The 2023 Mazda CX-60 will start at $58,242 (plus destination fee), but to get the facial recognition feature, consumers will have to opt for the Homura or Takumi trims which are $61,903 and $63,693 (plus destination fee) respectively. The Mazda CX-60 will also be available in the UK before arriving later in the US.
