All-New Mazda CX-60 Will Be Automaker’s Most Powerful SUV Yet

The all-new Mazda CX-60 has finally entered production. The crossover SUV will utilize Mazda’s new Skyactiv Multi Solution Scalable Architecture and will feature a rear-wheel-drive system. Mazda has teased the use of a rear-wheel-drive system for some time and now it will be put into use with the new CX-60. The crossover SUV will also feature a plug-in hybrid system (PHEV) which will grant it more performance and capability. This PHEV system will also be implemented into the Japanese automaker’s all-electric MX-30. The CX-60 serves as one of several new SUVs to be released from Mazda. We’ll take a look at the automaker’s most powerful SUV yet and see what consumers can expect.

All-New Mazda CX-60 To Feature PHEV System

The all-new Mazda CX-60 will utilize Mazda’s new plug-in hybrid system (PHEV). This PHEV system will grant the crossover SUV more capability and higher performance. The CX-60 will come equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a 129 kW electric motor. There’s also a 17.8 kWh battery. The gas engine is capable of 189 horsepower and 193lb-ft of torque while the electric motor adds an additional 134 horsepower and 184lb-ft of torque. Combined, the Mazda CX-60 has a total output of 322 horsepower and 369lb-ft of torque making it the most powerful Mazda SUV yet.

Mazda’s new CX-60 will enter production at the automaker’s Yamaguchi Prefecture plant in Japan. The crossover SUV will be the first Mazda vehicle to make use of the automaker’s Skyactiv Multi Solution Scalable Architecture. This architecture platform will be used to supply the CX-60 with rear-wheel-drive, something Mazda has been discussing adding to its lineup. The crossover SUV will also utilize an eight-speed automatic transmission so it should be highly engaging to drive.

As for the interior of the all-new Mazda CX-60, the SUV will feature a stylish interior cabin. Mazda’s unique KODO design aims for a clean and modern look that evokes luxury. We’re not sure what the instrument cluster and infotainment screen will feature, but lately, Mazda has been aiming to branch into a higher luxury class, so it will likely look the par. For now, we’ll be paying close attention as the Mazda CX-60 moves through production.
