The 2023 Mazda that Everyone Underestimates

Red Mazda3 Hatchback Person Building

Regarding entry-level compact sedans or hatchbacks, the Mazda 3 is a name that often gets overshadowed by competitors like the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. The Japanese automaker recently introduced new technology, driver assist features, and premium interior upgrades. The Mazda 3’s latest features can increase the popularity of the hatchback/sedan. Still, the real question is whether it will be enough to compete with the likes of the Corolla, Civic, or Elantra. Despite being underrated, the Mazda 3 is worth considering as an entry-level model in Mazda’s portfolio.

Inside the Mazda 3 Lies a Zestful Engine

In 2021, Mazda 3 introduced some compelling features, such as the turbocharged engine option and all-wheel drivetrain. Additionally, the base model upgraded from the previous 2.0-liter engine to a more robust 2.5-liter four-cylinder, boosting the horsepower from 186 to 191. These changes make the Mazda 3 an even more appealing option for a reliable and powerful vehicle for those in the market.

The 2023 model offers a choice between a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and the turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactive GI-4 engine. The base four-cylinder produces 191 horsepower, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter makes 250 horsepower and produces 320 pound-feet of torque, creating a spicy four-cylinder. The Mazda 3 has an impressive 0-60 MPH time of 5.9 seconds, much quicker than the Civic’s recorded 0-60 MPH time of 7.9 seconds.

A Luxurious Feel

The premium styling and updated features are captivating inside the hatchback/sedan. Top trim levels offer premium leather. However, even without the leather, the sleek black, soft-touch molded dash and cushioned armrests on the doors and console give the cabin a luxurious feel. There’s an 8.8-inch display for the infotainment interface, which is larger than other compact sedans. In comparison, the 2023 Honda Civic only has a 7.0-inch screen.

The Mazda 3 has fantastic driver assist features, including lane keep and lane departure, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection. However, the most remarkable feature is the adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capabilities. While many contenders have adaptive cruise control, adding the stop-and-go capabilities’s often an optional upgrade. That’s not the case with the 2023 Mazda 3, which offers these features as standard on all trim levels.

Mazda has gone above and beyond to ensure this compact sedan stands out. One fact that fascinates Mazda 3 enthusiasts is that iconic “Zoom-Zoom” feel and energy. Plus, the hatchback/sedan delivers a ton of updated features and mechanical options to choose from. Don’t sleep on the opportunity to build the perfect compact sedan/hatchback with the perfect bells and whistles.
