2022 Mazda CX-9 Earns Top Safety Rating
The 2022 Mazda CX-9 recently earned a top safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS serves as an independent nonprofit organization that specializes in reducing deaths, injuries, and property damage from motor vehicles. The IIHS determines the safety and reliability of vehicles through rigorous tests. The Mazda CX-9 recently underwent a new safety test, a side crash test. The crossover SUV underwent a high severity crash test that involved a heavy barrier striking the side of the vehicle at a high speed.
The 2022 Mazda CX-9 earned the IIHS’s top ‘Good’ safety rating in its new safety test. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 also earned a top ‘Good’ safety rating in the same side crash test. The smaller CX-5 was the only vehicle in its SUV class to earn the top safety rating, a testament to Mazda’s efficiency. Several other Mazda vehicles earned a Top Safety Pick+ which is the highest rating offered by the IIHS. These vehicles included the Mazda 3 (sedan and hatchback), Mazda 6, Mazda CX-3, and the Mazda CX-30. The CX-5 and CX-9 also earned this Top Safety Pick+ score.
Throughout the series of IIHS safety tests, the 2022 CX-9 stood out as one of three vehicles to earn a ‘Good’ rating in a driver pelvis injury test. The crossover SUV was also one of two vehicles to earn a ‘Good’ rating in every category. About the reliability and safety of Mazda’s vehicles, Mazda’s manager of Vehicle Safety Compliance, Planning, and Development Jennifer Morrison said,
“Our research has led us to thoughtfully consider the body structure of our vehicles, creating the robust designs we have on the road today,” said Jennifer Morrison. “We are proud to offer our consumers the highest level of protection in the event of a crash.”
