Blue Mazda CX-50 SUV Dirt RoadThe new CX-50 by Mazda is making waves in the compact SUV segment, but how does it compare to the CX-5, which is already a popular choice? Some see it as a sibling rivalry within the Mazda family, but the company has clarified that both models hold a firm position in their auxiliary

Two SUVs have similar dimensions and standard features, but each bears unique qualities. The CX-50 has a rugged and tough appeal, while the CX-5 embodies elegance and comfort. Let’s dive in and look at both SUVs and how they fare with enthusiasts’ lifestyles.

A Powerhouse of Performance

The 2023 versions of the CX-5 and CX-50 are impressive in terms of performance. The competition between these two models is fierce. The CX-5, a popular choice among fans, has received slight updates, including adding a stunning Rhodium White color to the available options.

On the other hand, the CX-50 is a brand-new model created to complement its smaller counterpart, the CX-5. While it is uncertain how long both models will be available simultaneously, Mazda enthusiasts can now enjoy the best of both worlds. It’s a win-win situation.

These SUVs have a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, which makes them perfect for hauling ATVs and teardrop trailers on exciting outdoor trips. Additionally, the turbocharged models of the CX-50 have an even greater towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

In addition to these impressive features, both cars include all-wheel drive and convenient extras such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, proximity-key entry, and smartphone mirroring technology, all without incurring additional costs.

It’s okay to desire a peppery ride because the Mazda CX-5 delivers with the available turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The 2.5L SkyActiv engine offers a 20 percent power boost compared to the base model, yielding 227 horsepower.

Press 93 octane gasoline at the pump by mistake, and the engine can produce up to 256 horsepower and a torque of 320 pound-feet at 2,000 RPM. The six-speed automatic transmission expertly controls this power, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable driving experience.

Cargo Capacity

The Mazda CX-5 has a maximum cargo space of 59.3 cubic feet, whereas the Mazda CX-50 offers slightly less at 56.3 cubic feet. Regarding legroom, both models are comparable, with around 41 inches in front and approximately 39 inches in rear seats.

Regarding headroom, the front seats of the CX-5 range from 39.3 to 39.7 inches, while the CX-50’s front seats have 38.6 to 39.1 inches of headroom. As for the rear seats, the CX-5 has 39.0 inches of headroom, while the CX-50 offers 37.5 to 38.6 inches.

The Mazda CX-5 and CX-50 can accommodate up to five passengers, providing sufficient space. In terms of exterior measurements, the CX-5 is 180.1 inches long and 72.6 inches wide, while the CX-50 is a bit longer at 185.8 inches and broader at 75.6 inches.

The CX-5 is the better option for storage capacity as it offers slightly more cargo space. However, the CX-50 is the way to go for those prioritizing interior roominess. It’s worth noting that both cars perform exceptionally well and are equipped to handle any adventure.

Infotainment System

Shall we look closer at the Mazda CX-5 and CX-50 infotainment capabilities? The CX-5 boasts a 10.3-inch display for infotainment, which drivers can easily control via a rotary controller and volume knob on the center console.

The CX-5 interface enables voice commands and includes convenient steering wheel-mounted buttons for easy access. All CX-5 models come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, Mazda offers Mazda Connected Services, which allows users to access remote vehicle functions through a smartphone app. This service also provides a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, taking connectivity to the next level.

The base model of the CX-50 vehicle comes equipped with an 8.8-inch infotainment display, while the higher trims have a larger 10.3-inch screen. All versions of the CX-50 use the latest Mazda Connect interface. Enthusiasts can control the CX-50’s interface through a click wheel on the center console. Furthermore, every CX-50 model comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features, and they can now be connected wirelessly for added convenience.
