The current iteration of the Mazda MX-5 was initially introduced in 2014, specifically for the 2015 model-year. Even after nine years, the model is still doing well, but to maintain and freshen its appeal, the model has undergone a series of updates and changes.

The Mazda MX-5 is a classic roadster that doesn’t need a lot of changes frequently. However, small modifications, such as the ones made for the Japanese and Australian markets, are always welcome. Although the company is yet to confirm, these changes should eventually be applied to our versions as well.

The updated Mazda MX-5 features new headlamps and LED lights on its exterior, without any significant changes to the bodywork. Additionally, a new radar is equipped at the front to enable the adaptive cruise control system, which is going to be added to the model’s offerings. Moreover, the updated version will have new 16 or 17 inches wheels with a fresh design.

The updated Mazda MX-5 now includes an intelligent city braking system that can automatically stop the car if it detects an imminent collision. Moving inside, the car features a new 8.8-inch screen for the multimedia system. The screen houses the company’s current multimedia system, which is more comprehensive than the previous one but is still not the most user-friendly system in the industry. We will have to wait and see if Mazda has made any improvements in this regard.

The updates to the Mazda MX-5 are more significant when it comes to the powertrains. The car gets a new two-way limited-slip differential that implements a different locking behavior when braking or accelerating. The steering has also undergone adjustments to improve feedback to the driver. The 1.5L 4-cylinder engine, which is not available in Canada, has gained a little power. The 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, which is available in Canada, has received new settings, but the details are yet to be announced. Additionally, the car now has a new track mode, which reduces stability control without disabling the system altogether.

These changes are likely to be introduced in the next Mazda MX-5 for North America. The only question is whether they will be a part of the 2024 model or the 2025 edition.
