Some Highly Anticipated Features for the 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata PT.1
The traditional way of measuring a sports car’s performance was by looking at its speed and power. However, this all changed in the year 1989 when Mazda introduced its legendary MX-5 Miata. During the development of the Miata, Mazda incorporated an ancient Japanese principle known as Jinba Ittai, which translates to “oneness of horse and rider”. The company’s primary objective was to create an experience where drivers felt like they were one with their car. To achieve this goal, the Miata was made small, lightweight, well-balanced, and available with a manual transmission. Despite its small four-cylinder engine, the MX-5 Miata was incredibly fun to drive, thanks to these attributes.
Rumors are currently spreading that the fifth-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata is in development and will be released in 2025. As the best-selling two-seater sports car of all time, the MX-5 Miata has gained a dedicated fan base and the anticipation for the new model is high. While details about the 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata NE are still scarce, car enthusiasts are hopeful that it will continue to embody the spirit of Jinba Ittai and the fun-to-drive characteristics of its predecessors. Some of the features that fans are hoping for include improved performance, a sleeker design, and advanced technology.
An Electric PowertrainÂ
The latest buzz around the upcoming Mazda MX-5 Miata NE is that it could be electrified. This news doesn’t come as a surprise as many automakers are working towards electrifying their models. Mazda has already invested heavily in the electrification of its lineup and aims to have electrified versions of all its models by 2030, with 25 percent of its lineup being fully electric. While there’s no official confirmation yet, many car enthusiasts believe that the new Miata will be fully electric rather than a hybrid. Fans are eagerly waiting for the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of this month, where they hope to get a glimpse of the new Miata.
An Extensive Exterior OverhaulÂ
The Mazda MX-5 Miata has always been known for its sleek and stylish design, and fans are eagerly anticipating the design changes that will come with the new model. While the dimensions and overall body profile are expected to remain largely unchanged, the new Miata is likely to incorporate modern design elements from Mazda’s Kodo design language. Some of the expected design changes include larger wheels, more pronounced fenders, and a smoother rear with streamlined taillights. The new Miata is also expected to offer both a soft-top and a retractable hardtop for those looking for convertible options. If the new Miata is fully electric, its design could be dramatically different, with a more aerodynamic and streamlined body to reduce drag.
Pop Out Headlights
Pop-up headlights were a classic feature of many cars in the past, and the first-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata was one of the cars that made them popular. It’s almost a rite of passage for first-gen Miata owners to acknowledge each other on the road by “winking” their pop-up headlights. Unfortunately, pop-up headlights were outlawed a couple of decades ago due to safety concerns for pedestrians, causing Mazda to stop using them. However, with advancements in technology, we believe that Mazda can find a way to reintroduce pop-up headlights safely and legally in the 2025 MX-5 Miata. Many car enthusiasts are hoping that Mazda will bring back this iconic feature and make it a distinguishing characteristic of the new Miata.
Wait, don’t go anywhere yet; this is only part one!Â

They are just now releasing the nd3 which should last 4-6 years meaning any big changes to the Miata will happen after that

I owned a1997 Miata, loved it. Although I’d welcome the return of pop up headlights, the thought of it going electric breaks my heart.
The last refresh is not going to last 4 to 6 years, trust me.
Have a 2021 MX5, would be interested in maybe a hybrid, but not a fully electric version.
My 2018 Fiat 124 Spider would destroy this Miata in every way 😉

Looking forward to the next generation Retractable Hardtop model. I am hoping for a hybrid model as is may have a longer driving range.
It will be a sad day the mx5 becomes electrified.
If they want to move to the next step they should make it hydrogen powered.
