Mazda’s Rich History On Mexican Soil
In October 2014, Mazda and MMVO celebrated the beginning of Mazda2 production in Mexico. This was a big milestone for Mazda, as the new production plant in Salamanca, Mexico is expected to play a crucial role in driving the company’s business growth strategy. The Mazda2, also known as Mazda Demio in Japan, was the first mass-production model to come out of the MMVO. It’s exciting to see Mazda expanding its reach and investing in new production facilities to bring us even more high-quality vehicles.
It’s great to hear that MMVO’s engine machining plant has begun operation to support the production of the Mazda2. This will help Mazda expand its reach and deliver more SKYACTIV models to customers around the world. It’s impressive that the plant shares the latest production and manufacturing technologies with Mazda’s Hiroshima Plant, and is equipped with a highly efficient engine parts machining line capable of producing a wide variety of parts. This investment in new facilities shows Mazda’s commitment to delivering high-quality vehicles and driving business growth.
Mazda is fully committed to delivering high-quality cars safely and proudly to customers. As part of this commitment, MMVO is investing aggressively in facilities and its own people. One of Mazda’s “master craftsmen,” Tsuyoshi Kunobu, was given an assignment at MMVO and now works tirelessly to transfer Japan’s specialty – outstanding craftsmanship and perfect attention to every detail – to local engineers with MMVO. Kunobu’s mission is to “transplant” Mazda’s commitment and dedication to manufacturing. Outside of work, Kunobu builds a spirit of teamwork with his fellow engineers by enjoying local culinary traditions and even some dancing at local bars and restaurants.
“My job is to pass Mazda’s manufacturing DNA on to our local people, so that the DNA will be deeply rooted at MMVO. I want to see our local people taking active roles at an operational level. I’m training them as leaders so that one day, MMVO will boast higher quality standards than the Hiroshima Plant. My dream is to see them working as a strong leader, instilling Mazda’s manufacturing DNA in their team members.”
-Tsuyoshi Kunobu, Mazda Mater Craftsman
Mazda truly values the contribution of its “master craftsmen” like Kunobu to the success of MMVO. With the opening of its new plant in Mexico, Mazda aims to set an example for its other production facilities. Regardless of where they are located, Mazda is dedicated to producing high-quality cars that exceed customer expectations, and strives to make Mazda a truly unique and special automotive brand that enriches the lives of its customers.
