Mazda C02 Emissions

Mazda Motor Corporation has outlined its commitment to significantly reduce CO2 emissions at its Japanese factories and operational sites by 69% compared to 2013 levels by the year 2030. Currently, these facilities contribute to 75% of the company’s total CO2 emissions.

In pursuit of global carbon neutrality across all its factories by 2035, Mazda is placing emphasis on key strategies, including energy conservation, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and incorporating carbon-neutral fuels.

To achieve carbon neutrality in its domestic facilities, Mazda plans to make a shift in the fuel used for internal transportation from diesel to an advanced biofuel. Moreover, the power source for the Hiroshima plant will undergo a transition from coal to liquid ammonia.

Takeshi Mukai, the Director and Senior Managing Executive, emphasized Mazda’s commitment to carbon-neutral initiatives as part of the automotive manufacturer’s core responsibility to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and combat global warming. The company aims to integrate these efforts seamlessly across all stages, encompassing manufacturing, transportation, usage, and recycling/disposal processes.

For Mazda’s factories outside Japan, the company will conduct region-specific investigations, drawing inspiration from the established carbon-neutral initiatives in Japan as a reference model. This approach ensures a tailored and effective implementation of measures to reduce CO2 emissions across different regions.
