The KODO design concept is the brainchild of Ikuo Maeda, the Executive Officer and General Manager of the Design Division at Mazda. Speaking about the revolutionary KODO design, Maeda says that the emphasis is on creating a vehicle that, “is not a means of getting from A to B, but actually a partner you can rely on and that inspires you.”

Seeking to improve upon its design concept, Mazda is aiming to combine a new style of elegance that is based on Japanese aesthetics. According to Mazda, Japanese aesthetics “call for a delicate sense of balance rather than a show of ostentation. For this reason, the next-generation design aims to breathe life into cars with a less is more aesthetic.” The result of this improved design philosophy is a blend of subtle details and elements that offer an elegant and refined atmosphere. For safety, Mazda will incorporate i-Activsense advanced safety and driver assistance technologies. These will provide collision mitigation through the use of a Smart Brake Support system (SBS).
