Mazda has finally unveiled its 2023 CX-50. The Japanese automaker has been teasing the crossover compact SUV as well as two others set to release for the 2022 model year. From what we’ve seen, the new Mazda CX-50 looks to have a more rugged look, perhaps to compete with Subaru’s Forester. The CX-50 is a cousin to the CX-5 but it uses the same platform as the CX-30. Naturally, the exterior of the new SUV features the unique KODO design aesthetic seen in Mazda vehicles. The compact SUV also seems to feature two available engine options and an all-wheel-drive system. We’ll have to wait for more information about the new CX-50, but we’ll dive into what Mazda has released thus far.

2023 Mazda CX-50 Unveiled

Mazda has finally debuted the 2023 CX-50. This new crossover comes as the first vehicle to be built at the joint Mazda Toyota manufacturing plant in Alabama. The CX-50 was teased as a cousin to the CX-5 and from what we can see, it is exactly that. The Mazda CX-50 seems similar in size to the CX-5 but it is more off-road oriented. The new crossover will feature a naturally aspirated 2.5L four-cylinder engine as well as an optional turbocharged 2.5L. Power figures are not currently known but both engines will come paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Mazda has stated that a hybrid version will be available later in 2022 as well as a potential electric version.

Mazda’s new crossover CX-50 will utilize the standard i-Activ all-wheel-drive system. This will enable several drive mode features which Mazda has dubbed Mi-Drive. Owners will be able to adjust their drive mode depending on road conditions. These drive mode options include Normal, Sport, and Off-Road. Mazda has also stated that CX-50 owners will be able to use the Mi-Drive feature for towing and hauling.

Interior and Exterior of CX-50

Mazda’s CX-50 features exquisite styling both inside and out. The crossover puts a fun outdoor spin on the Mazda Kodo design as the CX-50 gets black plastic cladding on the wheel arches and fascias along with a high-strength roof rail. This makes the CX-50 highly versatile as it can be used to store kayaks, skis, anything outdoor-related. The Crossover also gets a grille with thicker black accents and larger vents on either side. A new Zircon Sand exterior paint color also comes available.

Inside the CX-50, owners will note a driver-focused Mazda design layout. A touchscreen is mounted on the upper part of the dash and is controlled by a knob on the center console. Plush material and luxury elements can be opted for with higher-level trims, but even in the base model high-end materials and fixtures can be seen used throughout the cabin. The seats feature an outdoor aesthetic with Terracotta interior color and a panoramic moonroof. Mazda also put a heightened emphasis on storage compartments as cubbies can be found throughout the crossover SUV.

Pricing for the 2023 Mazda CX-50 has not been released yet so we’ll have to wait for more information from Mazda. Overall, the CX-50 looks to be a top contender in the SUV sphere. We’ll have to see what other features and additions Mazda will add, but the new crossover SUV looks to fit right in with the Mazda family.
