It seems like the Zoom-Zoom company has delayed the launch of the CX-70 SUV until 2024 which is a year later than originally planned. The CEO of Mazda North America, Tom Donnelly, confirmed that the model will be launched in 2024 instead of late 2023. On the bright side, the CX-70 is said to be offered with an electrified powertrain just like the CX-90. The CX-90 PHEV has a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor that delivers 323 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque to an all-wheel-drive system. It also has an eight-speed automatic with a wet clutch and a 14.8-kWh battery pack that provides an EPA-estimated 25 miles of electric range.

It’s worth noting that unlike the CX-90 which can accommodate six or seven people based on configuration, the CX-70 is expected to come only with two rows of seats. Despite that, the CX-70 will not be smaller than its bigger sibling. According to an official document published by Mazda in February to complement the FY March 2023 Third Quarter Financial Results Briefing, the CX-70 will have the same body as the CX-90 and will be a “two-row model.” You can access the document on Mazda’s website if you’re interested in reading more.

In addition to the CX-70 SUV, Mazda North America CEO Tom Donnelly has confirmed that an electric vehicle will be launched in North America in 2025. This comes after the MX-30’s slow sales led to its discontinuation after the 2023 model year. Donnelly hinted that the upcoming EV will use the name of an existing product, leading to speculation that it could be an SUV. He further added that Mazda is open to launching additional EVs down the line depending on customer demand.

Mazda North America CEO Tom Donnelly is optimistic that the company will sell more than 350,000 units this year in North America, and he projects that Mazda will move 500,000 vehicles in the region by 2025. Market share has already reached 2.3 percent, which is the highest it’s been since Mazda entered the U.S. market in 1960. The CX-90 SUV has been a significant contributor to the company’s success, with Donnelly noting that it’s already outselling the CX-9. The CX-9 will be discontinued after the 2023 model year. The CX-90 has had a great start, with 4,700 units sold in September, making it the best month yet for the newcomer.
