Mazda CX-60 Makes History

Mazda recently began production of the first CX-60 model. April 2022 marks the dawn of a new day for the makers of bonafide Zoom-Zoom. 

The 2022 Mazda CX-60 was constructed from the bones to the frame, initiating the automaker’s footsteps towards the contemporary era. The beginning of Mazda’s modern era unleashes the first mainstream rear-wheel-drive SUV. 

Last week (April 18, 2022), the Japanese automaker commenced the production of the CX-60 at Hofu Plant No. 2 in the Yamaguchi Prefecture. As a result, the European market will receive its first share of shipment examples from Japan by April 26th (2022). 

To commemorate the start of production, Mazda held a special ceremony. There were 100 people in attendance at the ceremony. Everyone in attendance was heavily involved in the production process. Akira Marumoto, Mazda’s CEO and President was also in attendance at the factory, including employees, local suppliers, officials, and hundreds of others who appreciated the ceremony online.

The “Zoom-Zoom” automaker detailed the CX-60 as “the most important model it has introduced in over a decade.” The new flagship model also represents “everything that the company has built into its DNS over the last 100 years.” 

In several different ways, the CX-60 brings forth a new chapter in the never-ending book of Mazda. The RWD crossover is the Japanese automaker’s first official attempt at a plug-in hybrid. The Mazda CX-60 combines a 2.5-liter inline-four engine that renders 134 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of electric power. The Mazda SUV’s hybrid powertrain received a rating of 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Following the Mazda CX-60 is the moderately more robust CX-70. Then the Mazda CX-70 will make a home out of the states and feature two-row seating. Fast forward some more, and the extended variation based on the same frame as the CX-70 will follow behind with a capacity for seven passengers, and it is known as the CX-90. Lastly, the Mazda CX-90 will take the US market by storm by 2025.
