The all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 is almost here. The three-row SUV is set to arrive on Mazda’s new longitudinal-engine platform for the all-new CX-60. Since the CX-60 will not make its way to the United States, the CX-90 will be the first Mazda vehicle in the U.S. to use the new platform. The three-row SUV will also be one of the first Mazda vehicles in the U.S. to utilize a plug-in hybrid powertrain. As of late, the Japanese automaker has been eyeing electric and hybrid technology to improve power and efficiency. As Mazda’s first EV, the MX-30 demonstrated the automaker’s ability to produce a stylish and engaging electric vehicle. One issue, however, was its range. Mazda’s solution was to add a rotary engine to the EV. Now Mazda is moving toward hybrid vehicles. While all the details have not been released, we’ll look at the 2024 Mazda CX-90 and see what consumers can expect.

What To Expect From The 2024 Mazda CX-90

The all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 is almost here. The three-row SUV is set to launch on Mazda’s new longitudinal-engine platform. It will be larger than the CX-9, which it is set to replace. Mazda has not released all the details about the CX-90, but we know it will feature a new inline-six engine. Looking at the CX-60, the CX-90 may also feature a hybrid powertrain option. Since Mazda has been focused on hybrid technology and the CX-90 shares the same platform as the CX-60, it would make sense to offer the SUV a hybrid setup. Currently, the CX-60 offers a 2.5L four-cylinder that combines with a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to deliver 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. We do not know if the CX-90 will see a similar option, but it seems likely given Mazda’s recent endeavors.

The Mazda CX-90 will feature badging on the side that indicates which powertrain is under the hood. As mentioned, the CX-90 will receive a new inline-six engine so that it will be displayed should owners opt for it. If owners opt for the new e-Skyactiv plug-in hybrid powertrain version of the CX-90, PHEV will instead be displayed. Mazda’s reasoning for the side badging is to fill the space left by the new longitudinally mounted engine. The extra space also means the SUV’s rear doors open wider to almost 90 degrees. This gives drivers and passengers more room to sit and put items like car seats inside.

Inside the CX-90, owners will note a distinct styling technique called Nishijin-ori. Known as a Japanese hand-weaving technique, this design is used for the SUV’s dashboard. It features a randomized fabric pattern that has gold thread woven through it. A bold stitch completes the unique look in the middle of the fabric. The SUV’s front doors feature thin panels of maple with a chrome strip inside. The display is 12.3 inches for the infotainment screen and features a wide and short horizontal orientation. Overall, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 will continue the tradition of elegance that Mazda has been known for while elevating the overall aesthetic. We’ll stay tuned for more information, but it seems the CX-90 will make a fantastic replacement for the CX-9.
