What to Expect from the All-New 2024 Mazda CX-90
The all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 is on its way. The family-size SUV is expected to arrive on a brand-new longitudinal-engine platform that Mazda had initially created for the Mazda CX-60. Since the CX-60 is not available in the United States, the CX-90 will be the first Mazda SUV in the United States to sit on the new platform. While some information about the new SUV has been revealed, Mazda has kept some things, like performance specs, under wraps. Thankfully, due to the recently released CX-60, we can speculate as to what the larger CX-90 will arrive with. The Mazda CX-60 features a hybrid setup which will be the next focus for Mazda as it creates more electric and hybrid vehicles. The automaker’s all-electric MX-30 is set to receive a hybrid setup, increasing its power and battery range. With so many options, we’ll look at the all-new Mazda CX-90 and see what consumers can expect.
What Will the Mazda CX-90 Arrive With?
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has been teased as the next family-sized SUV to come to the United States. The CX-90 will ride on the same longitudinal-engine platform as the recently released Mazda CX-60. Since the CX-60 is unavailable in the United States, the CX-90 will be the first Mazda vehicle to utilize the platform. Looking at the CX-60, it’s clear that the crossover SUV is broader and larger than the CX-5, which it’s set to replace. As such, it’s expected that the CX-90 will share similar features to accommodate the family-sized SUV. These features may also include engine options, as the CX-60 features several hybrid options.Â
The CX-90 is expected to feature a new inline-six engine. The CX-60, which shares a platform with the family-size SUV, doesn’t utilize an inline-six, but it’s likely the CX-90 will feature similar, if not greater, performance standards than the CX-60. Currently, the Mazda CX-60 features a 3.3L turbocharged straight-six engine that delivers 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. A 3.3L straight-six turbo diesel engine combines with a 48-volt hybrid system to offer 251 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the crossover SUV features the option for a 2.5L four-cylinder that combines with a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to deliver 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.Â
Since the 2024 Mazda CX-90 is a larger SUV, it may feature higher performance standards than the crossover CX-60. Due to Mazda’s recent hybrid innovations, the CX-90 could also see a hybrid system offered, which would increase its performance and efficiency. Regardless of the setup, it’s inevitable that the CX-90 will be a highly innovative SUV with impressive performance and versatility. Mazda will likely reveal more about the all-new Mazda CX-90 in January 2023, so until then, we’ll stay tuned to learn more about the new family-sized SUV.
