The Mazda CX-70 Set to Premiere in 2025
It looks like Mazda fans will have to wait a little longer for the smaller sibling of the three-row CX-90 SUV. Originally set for release by the end of this year, the CX-70 two-row mid-size crossover will now reportedly launch in 2024, according to Mazda’s North American CEO Tom Donnelly.
Mazda has set its sights on expanding its U.S. sales and catering to the country’s demand for SUVs by adding more models to its lineup. With the introduction of the CX-70 mid-size crossover, Mazda hopes to offer American buyers a wider range of vehicles to choose from. The CX-70 will join the CX-30 subcompact, CX-50, and CX-5 in the compact segment, as well as the three-row CX-90 in the mid-size segment, to deliver a comprehensive line of SUVs.
We already have some insight into what the CX-70 will offer, as Mazda has revealed that it will be a wider version of the already-available CX-60 SUV in Europe. The CX-70 will share the same longitudinal-engine platform as the CX-90, but with a shorter wheelbase. It is expected to use similar powertrains to its larger sibling, including a hybrid option that will likely be the same setup as the CX-90 PHEV. The CX-70 will also likely include the CX-90’s turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six that produces either 280 hp or 340 hp, depending on the trim level.
While Mazda has not confirmed a specific timeline for the debut of the CX-70, it is expected that more information about the new model will be revealed in the coming months. As the CX-70 is slated to be released in 2024, it is likely that Mazda will provide additional details on the mid-size crossover in the near future. Fans of the brand will undoubtedly be eagerly anticipating more information as Mazda continues to expand its SUV lineup.
