The Mazda CX-60 Is A World Car Finalist
The 2022 Mazda CX-60 was selected as a finalist in the World Car Awards. Hosted annually, the World Car Awards is a collection of Car of the Year Awards that are determined by a jury of 82 journalists from 24 different countries. For the 2023 World Car Awards, the all-new Mazda CX-60 was selected as a finalist due to its ingenuity and capability. The crossover SUV serves as Mazda’s first hybrid vehicle. Two years ago, the automaker released its first all-electric SUV, the MX-30, but criticisms centered on the lack of battery range. To remedy this, Mazda opted for hybrid technology, which combines the best of both worlds. The Mazda CX-60 is not available in the United States, but a similar SUV, the CX-70, is on its way. We’ll look at the CX-60 and see why it earned a spot in the World Car Awards.
Mazda CX-60 Earns A Spot In The World Car Finals
The 2022 Mazda CX-60 earned a spot in the World Car Award finals. This competition is held annually and pits various vehicles from different automakers against one another. Eighty-two international automotive journalists from 24 other countries come together to decide which car reigns supreme. The World Car Awards has been held each year since 2004 and is a top honor for automakers. To be selected, a vehicle must be sold in at least five countries and on at least two continents before January 1st of that year of the award.
The Mazda CX-60 is among ten finalists in the 2023 World Car Awards. Its nine competitors include: Alfa Romeo Tonale, the BMW 2 Series Coupé, BMW X1 / iX1, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Kia Niro, Mercedes-Benz C, Nissan Ariya, and Nissan Z. Although all these vehicles offer high capability and versatility, the Mazda CX-60 brings a unique quality that can only be found in Mazda. The CX-60 is one of Mazda’s first hybrid vehicles and uses the automaker’s new Skyactiv Multi Solution Scalable Architecture. Capable of towing up to 5,500 pounds, the crossover SUV offers a stylish and elegant design further complemented by its high performance.
As one of Mazda’s first hybrid vehicles, the CX-60 offers several engine options. One is a 2.5L plug-in hybrid setup with a 129 kW electric motor. Together it delivers 326 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque. Another option is Mazda’s new 3.3L engine which produces 280 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. Finally, a 3.3L turbo diesel option delivers 252 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. All engines, aside from the turbo diesel, utilize rear-wheel drive. Inside, the crossover SUV features advanced driver-assist features like various drive modes, smart brake support, radar cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, and more. With so much versatility, it’s no surprise that the Mazda CX-60 was considered a finalist for the World Car Awards.
