The Mazda CX-60 Comes to Light for the US’s Mazda CX-70

Mazda adds weight to the claim of the automaker to watch with the arrival of its new platform underway. The Mazda CX-60 plug-in-hybrid will not make an acquaintance out of the US. However, the hybrid SUV will likely serve as a sneak peek to the
United States’s Mazda’s CX-70. 

One look at the name, and the CX-60 says it all. The new Mazda SUV is larger and more stylish than its brethren, the all-new CX-50. Additionally, the new CX-60 exemplifies the Japanese automaker’s new captivating architecture. The longitudinal engine’s layout takes the already upscale Mazda upstream into plush territory. 

The Mazda CX-60 includes a standard plug-in-hybrid powertrain that employs a 2.5-liter gasoline engine plus an electric motor that yields 134-horsepower. With the addition of the electric motor, the Mazda SUVs’ total outcome is 323-horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.    

Mazda declared that the CX-60 would provide an electric range of 39 miles through a 17.8-kWh battery pack. Additionally, the Mazda SUV possesses an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive will premiere standard.

The CX-60’s interior does seem to inherit a bit of style from the CX-5. However, the ‘Zoom-Zoom’ automaker steps the CX-60’s exterior up a notch with extra chrome to avoid confusion. Expect the CX-70 and CX-60 to have an uncanny resemblance, but anticipate the CX-70 to be more robust and possibly sportier. 

Mazda’s interior is exceptional compared to any competitor who competes within the same segment. Yet, the CX-60’s cabin goes above and beyond the Japanese automaker’s current offerings. The Mazda plug-ins’ cabin demonstrates refined materials enclosing the dashboard and seats. The dashboard and seats feature woven textiles, wooden trim, and Nappa leather.     

The CX-60 holds two rows for passengers, and the CX-70 will do the same. There’s also word of a Mazda CX-90 later down the road, but that model will most likely house three rows of seats and eventually replace the Mazda CX-9. 

Although the Mazda CX-60 will premiere solely in Europe, the model will operate sometime soon, with an inline-six engine paired with a 48-volt hybrid system. Mazda managed to release some information on the CX-60’s upcoming powertrain, but only time will allow us to learn about the CX-70’s specs. However, many enthusiasts anticipate the Mazda CX-70 to bear the same plug-in hybrid setup for the US.
