The 2024 Mazda CX-90 Aims for Luxury

Today we climb into the 2024 Mazda CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus trim. The top-tier trim of the all-new SUV delivers an experience so rich it’s hard to imagine that the automaker could exceed its own abilities. On the road to the premium segment, Mazda incorporates soft Nappa leather seats, blond Japanese maple wood, and sharp cloths sewn on the instrument panel. The Japanese automaker recalls the appeal of the Volvo XC90 or the Genesis GV80.

The Japanese automaker infused their vehicles with more personality through richer materials that romanticize its bewitching road manners. The Mazda CX-90 puts the New in All-New

The three-row SUV Mazda will act as the flagship, and the automaker did not come to disappoint. The full-sized SUV exists on an all-new architecture and comes to life through two new engines. The first engine is the plug-in hybrid, sending power through an all-new transmission and fresh all-wheel drive system. 

The ‘Large’ platform supports the CX-90. The architecture sustains the rear drive and situates the engine longitudinally rather than the traditional transversely found in the CX-9. The Mazda SUV comes standardly equipped with all-wheel drive. 

There’s another reason for the new underpinnings, and that’s the premium SUV stature. Thanks to the longer dash-to-axle ratio, which measures from the front wheel to the dashboard. The transverse engine can’t keep up with the extended hood and a cabin that stretches further back. As a result, the new Mazda SUV delivers sophisticated proportions that favor the luxury vehicles from BMWs and Mercedes. 

Carefully crafted sheet metal comes together beautifully to render that premium profile. Although the Mazda CX-90 looks substantial, the SUV is slightly larger than the CX-9, which it will assume responsibilities for before 2023 ends. The CX-90 is 1.4 inches longer, 0.6 inches taller, and an inch more expansive than the CX-9. The three-row SUV will contend on the larger end of the mid-size SUV segment with the likes of the Kia Telluride and the Toyota 4Runner. 

Trim Levels and Seating for More Than Six

The CX-90 offers an array of trims and seating configurations. The Mazda SUV offers five optional trims: Select, Preferred, Preferred Plus, Premium, and Premium Plus. Each trim level has more luxury within the interior than the last. Once enthusiasts settle on a trim, it’s time to select the preferred seating configuration, which may alter the trim fans end up with. After all, the Turbo S and PHEV models only offer the top few trims. 

The Mazda SUV offers six, seven, or eight-passenger configurations depending on the model and trim. The layout incorporates three horizontal bench seats for the second and third-row benches. There’s a Rubik’s cube of possibilities regarding the seating arrangement. Yet, no matter the setup enthusiasts select, there’s plenty of space in the first two rows, and the kiddies have an exclusive VIP section for the third row (kids only).

The Mazda CX-90 Turbo S delivers a posh experience revealing a long list of standard equipment enclosing Nappa leather upholstery. In addition, there are gorgeous wood inlays along with heated-and-ventilated front seats and second-row captain’s chairs, a second-row console, three-zone climate control, a head-up display, 12-speaker Bose audio, a power sunroof, and much more. The Turbos S model welcomes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and 12.3-inch central touchscreen, larger than the 7.0-inch and 10.3-inch screens in the latter trims. Some firm plastic is in the interior, but they are ingeniously disguised. Moreover, all 2024 Mazda CX-90s feature a full suite of driver-assist safety technology.
