The 2024 Mazda CX-70 is Luxury Ready

In 2021, Mazda warned us that it had some big plans, especially within the premium segment. Since releasing the CX-60 in the European market, the automaker’s ready to unleash the CX-70/80 before the year ends (2023). The Mazda CX-80 will serve those traversing on those narrow roads and tight parking spaces in places like Europe and Japan.

North America, however, requires an entirely different beast. The two-row CX-70 will join the likes of the highly anticipated CX-90. Additionally, Mazda has emphasized the electrification of prospective models, with the CX-70 expected to reveal innovative technology and eco-friendly options.

The Mazda CX-70

The prospective crossover will deliver a plush experience compared to its smaller siblings, the CX-5 and CX-50. Revealing a slick new platform and a wider body, the CX-70 will captivate audiences with its distinctive styling and serve as the perfect selection for enthusiasts looking for something between the CX-50 and three-row CX-90. Although the CX-50 is more ruggedly capable, the CX-70 will act as a slimmer version of the CX-90, pursuing a more luxurious approach.

Mazda’s North American CEO Jeff Guyton stated that the CX-70 would share the same platform as the CX-90. Delivering a slender new platform and wider body, the two-row SUV will also reveal a spacious interior with quality materials that promise a relaxing and heightened driving experience.

We’re not done bragging yet; the Mazda CX-70 will also offer a compelling driving experience in plug-in and mild-hybrid six powertrain options. For example, the turbocharged 3.3-inline-six may output 340 horsepower, while the 2.5-liter inline-four plug-in hybrid model will mimic the CX-60 yielding 323 horsepower while producing an all-electric range of 39 miles. Furthermore, all-wheel-drive comes standard for every trim.

However, even with an engine lineup that favors the CX-90, the CX-70 plans to deliver a little more excitement which makes sense once factoring in the SUV’s more compact sizing and longitudinal engine layout with a rear wheel drive bias. In addition, Mazda is turning on the fire with the future two-row seater’s driving dynamics that will set the SUV apart from the rest and catalyze a new definition for the segment best.

The Countdown Begins

As the Japanese automaker gears up for the upmarket push, the CX-70 will threaten the livelihoods of the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC. The Mazda SUVs’ expected performance and handling package will keep up with the reputation of BMW but offer more capacity. Although pricing has yet to be confirmed, expect the CX-70 to undercut many of its overpriced competitors.

The 2024 Mazda CX-70’s launch date is approaching, with the Mazda USA CEO Jeff Guyton confirming the vehicles will arrive sometime this year (2023). The SUV is expected to premiere by the second half of 2023. However, many enthusiasts hope for a premiere in July or August so that the US market will receive the 2024 model by October (2023).
