Spy Photos Capture the Mazda CX-80 Cruising Around Europe
Hey there! We were out and about and caught a glimpse of the new Mazda CX-80 being tested in Europe. It’s set to hit the market later this year and we’re pretty excited about it. The car was covered in camo, so it was hard to get a good look, but we did notice some similarities to other Mazda models. It’s going to have three rows of seating, so it’s perfect for families or anyone who needs a little extra space. We can’t wait to see it without the camo!
I recently came across some information on the CX-80, which seems to be a three-row version of the Mazda CX-60. It’s built on the same rear-wheel drive-based platform and appears to have a slightly longer wheelbase. One noticeable difference is the larger window between the C and D pillars. The design looks very similar to the Mazda CX-70, with the same front-end styling as other Mazda SUVs. However, from a distance, the camouflage makes it look like a brand new Rolls Royce Spectre. Interesting, right?
I remember when the CX-60 was launched last year, it was definitely a game-changer. The 2.5-liter gasoline engine paired with an electric motor was impressive, making a combined 323 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. But what really caught my attention were the optional powertrains, especially the 3.3-liter straight-six diesel engine rated at 251 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque. And let’s not forget about the Australian hybrid variant with a 3.3-liter straight-six gasoline engine and 48V mild-hybrid system. The CX-60 truly has something for everyone.
I’ve been keeping an eye on the Mazda CX-80, but it looks like there’s still no official date set for its release. Mazda did confirm that it will be sold in Europe and Japan, though, so that’s good news for potential buyers in those regions. As for North America, there’s no word yet on whether the CX-80 will be offered here. We already have the CX-90, which is a very similar vehicle, albeit with a slightly wider profile. Hopefully, Mazda will give us some updates soon on their plans for the CX-80.
I’ve been hearing a lot about Mazda lately and all the new products they’ve been launching. Apparently, they’re planning on releasing a new CX-5 in 2025 that might feature a hybrid powertrain. And get this, there’s even talk of a new rotary-powered sports car that could use a hybrid setup. I saw a patent for it last month. It’s pretty exciting stuff!
