Say Goodbye to the Mazda MX-30
Simply look at the Mazda MX-30, and it is a gorgeous all-electric vehicle. The interior of the EV SUV is also quite impressive, and it handles well. However, there are other favored electric vehicles, especially in America. The motor yields 143 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque, which means it takes almost 10 seconds to reach 60 mph. Additionally, the EPA-rated range for the MX-30 merely stretches to 100 miles. Considering the Mazda SUV costs over $30,000, it’s hard to justify buying it when the Nissan Leaf offers more range and is cheaper.
The Japanese automaker recently announced its plans to discontinue the MX-30 after the 2023 model year. However, any enthusiasts planning to purchase one still have some time left. Unfortunately, the electric vehicle is no longer available for enthusiasts who fell for the SUV and reside outside the United States. Mazda stated in the announcement that it will focus on its current U.S. electrification efforts, which include large platform PHEVs like the first-ever 2024 CX-90 PHEV, the upcoming CX-70 PHEV, and the CX-50 Hybrid, which will cater to the specific needs of the U.S. market.
Mazda knew what it was doing when introducing the MX-30 to the U.S. market. Right from the start, it was clear that the Japanese automaker was aware of the limited interest in this vehicle, so they only imported 560 models and sold them exclusively in California. In some big cities like Boston or New York, the MX-30 could thrive, but even then, it may have been a stretch. While the idea of a rotary-engine range extender may have made the MX-30 more appealing, it was apparent that the market just didn’t need the all-electric vehicle. All in all, the Japanese automaker made a wise decision by limiting its sales to California.
So farewell to the Mazda MX-30; we are eager to see what the masterful automaker comes up with next.Â
