A New Interior for the MX-5 Miata

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is renowned for being one of the best driver’s cars on the market. Its exceptional driving dynamics are complemented by a comfortable and driver-focused interior. The current Miata boasts a cozy teardrop cabin with sophisticated accents throughout, heated bucket seats, a telescopic steering wheel that dials in on the driver’s position, and other cool features that make it a superb place to be in. We anticipate that the new Miata will continue to offer these features, with a touch of added luxury. Conversely, the electric version may take a different approach, following the current trend of minimalist interiors full of touchscreens.

More Power for the Power House Roadster

While power has never been the main selling point of the Miata, the current model comes equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 181 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the less powerful sports cars on the market. Nonetheless, this is still an improvement over the previous generation’s power figures. The new Miata is expected to receive a slight power increase, possibly even surpassing 200 hp. This is especially true for the electric version, which could boast over 300 hp to offset the additional weight.

The Mazda MX-5 May Maintain its Petite Size

In terms of the Miata’s driving experience, its lightness is arguably more important than its power output. This lightness is key in making the driver feel one with the car, particularly in the twists and turns, which is why it has always been among Mazda’s top priorities when developing any Miata generation. The Miata has never exceeded 2,500 pounds, and we do not expect the 2025 version to be the first, at least not the gas-powered iteration. It is possible that the electric version may exceed 2,500 pounds, but the additional power output should help to maintain the car’s agility and lightweight feel.

Enhanced Fuel Economy

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is one of the best sports cars for daily driving, in part, due to its impressive fuel economy. According to FuelEconomy.gov, the current MX-5 offers 30 mpg combined mileage, which translates to 357 miles on a full tank. This makes it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in 2023, especially among sports cars. The upcoming Miata NE should offer even better fuel economy thanks to improvements in the engine, body design, and other factors. Additionally, the addition of an electrified version – whether it’s a hybrid or a fully electric model – could drastically improve the Miata’s fuel efficiency, making it an even more practical option for daily use.

Numerous Customization Options

One of the unique selling points of the Mazda MX-5 Miata is its customizability. With so many Miata’s on the road, the chances of encountering one that looks exactly like yours are higher than with rarer sports cars like Lamborghinis and Ferraris. To combat this, Mazda offers numerous customization options. For example, the current model has three trims to choose from – Sport, Club, and Grand Touring. Additionally, Mazda’s ‘Build Your MX-5 Program’ provides buyers with up to 78 combinations to make their car unique. Depending on their tastes and preferences, buyers can select exterior colors, transmissions, appearance packages, interior colors and materials, and a wide range of accessories. We anticipate that the upcoming 2025 Mazda MX-5 will be even more customizable, offering buyers the ability to create a truly unique car that stands out from the crowd.
