Mazda Team Nominates Masahiro Moro as its Next CEO

Not, this is not a drill. We’re entering an era of a new CEO as Mazda looks to appoint Masahiro Moro as the new boss. Moro was the acting Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer, but he left a lasting impression and will act as the new President and CEO. 

Just a little background on the future Chief of “Zoom-Zoom.” Moro is 62 years young, and he’s maintained a 40-year marriage with Mazda. The future Mazda CEO served as the head of North America operations. Moreover, Moro will officially take over once he wins the approval of the shareholder board in June (2023). 

Acting Mazda CEO and President Akira Marumoto assumed responsibility in 2018. However, Marumoto will let go of the reins by June (2023). Nonetheless, Marumoto will continue to provide his seasoned logic as an adviser. 

A transformation in leadership comes off the brink of news of automotive conglomerate Toyota. Toyota owns 5.1 percent of Mazda, and in November (2022) the Japanese automaker made mention of increased spending on electrification. Furthermore, Toyota also disclosed that, although under consideration, the automaker is invested in producing its own batteries. 

In closing, Mazda disclosed that the incumbent representative director and board chairman Kiyotaka Shobude would resume his post.
