Mazda Takes Home the 2023 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award

The IIHS’s safety requirements for the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award in 2023 set the bar high for vehicle safety, with vehicles needing to earn high ratings in multiple categories to qualify for the accolade. For instance, good ratings in driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests are required, as well as the availability of front crash prevention systems that earn advanced or superior ratings in both the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. Furthermore, it’s reassuring that acceptable or good headlights must be standard across all trims, ensuring drivers have the best visibility possible in all driving conditions. 

The lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK award requires only an acceptable rating in the updated side test and an advanced or superior rating in the daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian test. It is a more achievable goal for some vehicles than the higher-tier award.

Mazda’s unwavering commitment to safety has paid off once again, with the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award being bestowed upon the 2024 Mazda3, CX-30, and CX-90 models. Meanwhile, the 2024 Mazda CX-5 and CX-50 have earned the prestigious recognition of 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK award winners.
