Mazda recently revealed an all-new render of an all-electric sports car. After releasing its first all-electric vehicle, the 2022 MX-30, the Japanese automaker has taken a new stance on EVs and hybrids. Like many other automakers, Mazda aims to have a certain percentage of its global sales come from EVs. To accomplish this, the automaker has been focusing on hybrid and electric technology and increasing its EV production. Having received criticism for its lackluster MX-30, Mazda started working on new vehicles like the CX-60 and CX-90, which are set to feature hybrid powertrains. Mazda can offer impressive performance and efficiency by using an electric motor combined with a combustion engine. Although Mazda has not released any details about its new render, we can look at the electric sports car and determine what it means for the automaker’s future.

Mazda Reveals New Render of Electric Sports Car

Mazda recently unveiled a new render of an electric sports car. Details did not arrive alongside the all-electric car, so it’s up to interpretation if it will be an all-new vehicle or whether it’s the rumored electric Mazda RX-7. Regardless, the decision to release the render speaks to Mazda’s future. Already the automaker has aimed to increase its EV production as new hybrid vehicles peek their heads above the horizon. One of the most potent Mazda vehicles yet, the Mazda CX-60, will combine an electric motor and gas engine to deliver 322 horsepower and 369lb-ft of torque.

Like many other automakers, Mazda aims to reduce its global carbon emissions. By 2030, the Japanese automaker wants 25 to 40 percent of its global sales from electric vehicles. The automaker wants to make its manufacturing plants and factories carbon-neutral by 2035. While this seems like a deep dive into electrification, Mazda plans to transition slowly. According to the automaker, it will follow a three-phase approach involving hybrid vehicles first and then fully electric vehicles.

Looking at the EV render, it’s unclear if the electric sports car will come to fruition or if Mazda is hinting at the direction it wants to take. So far, many of the latest vehicles to be released have been SUVs. This is partly due to many within the automotive industry favoring SUVs due to their overall size and level of safety. Mazda may want to return to iconic sports cars like the Miata. Going by the name of the render, ‘Mazda Vision Study Model,’ the electric model could indicate a high-power electric hybrid in the works. We’ll stay tuned as Mazda keys us in on where it sees itself headed for the electric future.
