Mazda Files Patent for New Tailgate Design

Mazda’s New Innovative Design 

According to a newly filed patent, Mazda is working on an improvement for its trunk design. This improvement involves the tailgate of Mazda SUVs and it focuses on implementing a two-speed motorized trunk lid. This lid will likely be accompanied by a sensor to more readily open and close the trunk. While this new innovation may seem somewhat trivial, Mazda is known for its quality. This quality translates to both design and function. By improving the tailgate functionality of its SUVs, Mazda lets its consumers know that their convenience will always be a priority. 

The new innovative design by Mazda will likely feature a sensor that will detect the proximity of the key fob near the vehicle. This proximity will determine the speed at which the trunk lid opens and closes. In ensuring accuracy, Mazda will enable the lid to determine how close the owner is. When swiping their foot under the rear bumper, the lid will open or close at an average speed of 11.8 inches per second. If the owner steps back, the vehicle will also sense this change and will increase the speed to 17.7 inches per second.
