Mazda Doubles Down on Carbon Neutral Factories by 2035

The Mazda EV lineup consists of the MX-30 and the zero-emissions CX-30 for the Chinese market. Although the Japanese automaker’s electric vehicle lineup isn’t extensive, three other electric vehicles and five plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) will debut in 2025. However, Mazda’s most recent declaration revealed that the automaker will attempt to achieve a carbon-neutral production globally by 2025. 

Mazda announced its carbon-neutral plans to act as baby steps toward the automaker’s bigger goal of being carbon-neutral by 2050. For Mazda to tackle its carbon-neutral goals, the automaker will focus on three key areas: energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy, and an introduction to carbon-neutral fuels for in-house transportation. Furthermore, the Japanese automaker will continue its efforts toward a greener and healthier supply chain. 

Regarding energy consumption and conservation, Mazda primarily focuses on energy balance during vehicle production when large amounts of CO2 are emitted. As a result, the Japanese automaker will execute better manufacturing practices that require minimal energy, especially low-temperature curing paints. Furthermore, Mazda will enhance its energy conservation efforts by optimizing processing technologies. 

The Miata makers will also consider various forms of minimal or carbon-less power generation. Additionally, Mazda will partner with the Hiroshima Council for Automotive Industry-Academia-Government to promote and implement carbon-neutral fuels for in-house transportation. Lastly, the Japanese automaker will take advantage of its previous experiences with the other Mazda factories in Japan. Mazda’s prior experience will be optimal for creating new production plants globally.
