SUV demand continues to surge, eclipsing traditional car sales by approximately tenfold, resulting in a diverse array of sizes and styles within the crossover market. For those among the 90 percent% opting for crossovers, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 presents an enticing option. Despite sharing identical dimensions with its predecessor, the CX-90, the CX-70 distinguishes itself with a two-row seating configuration, offering superior cargo capacity—an aspect prioritized during Mazda’s SUV design process.

Comparatively, the CX-70 boasts more cargo space than several higher-end rivals. The two-row SUV even surpasses its larger counterpart, the CX-90, with a generous 39.6 cubic feet of cargo room, expanding to 75.3 cubic feet when the second-row seats once folded—a versatile feature potentially accommodating bulky items or even serving as impromptu sleeping quarters. Mazda eschews clichés like “active lifestyle,” opting for a refreshing approach to marketing practically lush vehicles.

Beyond its spacious cargo hold, the CX-70 stands out among mid-size crossover contenders for its unexpectedly enjoyable driving experience. Despite its substantial curb weight, which ranges from 4,863 to 5,198 pounds, both the CX-90 and CX-70 leverage Mazda’s unique Large Platform, featuring double wishbones up front and a five-link rear suspension. This setup and Mazda’s proprietary Kinematic Posture Control imbue the CX-70 with stability and agility on winding roads.

Under the hood, drivers may glance at three potent engines. Options include two variants: a 3.3-liter turbocharged straight-six and a 2.5-liter turbo-four paired with a plug-in hybrid-electric motor. The plug-in hybrid variant, capable of generating 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque on premium gasoline, boasts a commendable electric range of up to 26 miles while incorporating Mazda’s Tow Mode for enhanced stability during towing.

The 3.3-liter turbocharged straight-six offers a standard model producing 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, with the Turbo S Premium and Turbo S Premium Plus variants elevating performance to 340 hp and 369 lb-ft. Notably, the 3.3 Turbo Premium models have a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds when furnished with Mazda Genuine Towing Accessories.

Despite its substantial weight, the CX-70 impresses with its nimble handling and offers an unexpectedly enjoyable driving experience.
