Construction for Mazda’s Six-Cylinder Turbodiesel Begins

Mazda is erecting the straight six-turbo diesel engine, and the engine is a 3.3-liter turbocharged diesel. Although the diesel powertrain is slowly approaching extinction in the US, the Japanese automaker is preparing to launch the 2023 CX-60’s engine. Accompanying the Mazda product line for 2023, the turbocharged diesel engine features fascinating technology that will assist the crossover in attaining a thermal efficiency of over 40 percent. Furthermore, The 3.3-liter turbocharged diesel engine will pair with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for the best efficiency possible. 

The Mazda engineers designed the new turbo diesel engine with a Distribution-Controlled Partially Premixed Compression Ignition system. Basically, a diesel engine utilizes compression ignition to ignite the mixture of fuel and air in the cylinder. So the Distribution-Controlled Partially Premixed Compression Ignition will assure the CX-60 crossover achieves its efficiency target. 

The 3.3-liter turbocharged diesel engine and the mild-hybrid system generate 197 horsepower in rear-wheel-drive applications. In addition to the rear-wheel drive output, all-wheel-drive generates 251 horsepower. The most powerful variation of the turbocharged diesel engine may not yield as much horsepower; however, 406 lb-ft of torque will propel any CX-60 enthusiasts down any highway in the blink of an eye.  

Mazda alleges that the diesel-powered CX-60 crossover guzzles a gallon of diesel for every 58 miles for the rear-wheel-drive powertrain. The more zestful all-wheel-drive system renders a little less mileage with 53 miles per gallon. The CX-60’s miles per gallon is standard for the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. However, based on the EPA’s test cycle, the turbo diesel crossover should anticipate a decline in miles per gallon based on the EPA’s test cycle. 

The turbodiesel 2023 Mazda CX-60 will cause chaos in the United Kingdom once it debuts at the beginning of 2023. However, it is almost certain that the Mazda crossover will not make it across the pond to the States.
