I’m really excited to share with you about the 2024 Mazda CX-30! This small SUV has got it all when it comes to driving verve, which is definitely a top priority for many of us. It’s based on the Mazda 3 compact car, which gives it a level of athleticism that’s not always seen in SUVs. Plus, the cabin furnishings are a cut above the rest, making it stand out from competitors like the Subaru Crosstrek and Volkswagen Taos.

Now, it’s worth noting that if you go with the entry-level 2.5-liter four-cylinder, you might find the CX-30 to be a bit sluggish. However, Mazda offers a more powerful (but more expensive) 250-hp turbocharged version if you’re looking for a little more oomph. Either way, all-wheel drive comes standard with both engines, and they both have a six-speed automatic transmission.

If you’re looking for a more luxurious option in the subcompact crossover segment, the higher-end trims of the CX-30 offer near-luxury accommodations inside. This makes it a great alternative to more expensive models like the Audi Q3 or BMW X1. Overall, I think the 2024 Mazda CX-30 is definitely worth considering if you’re in the market for a fun-to-drive SUV that doesn’t compromise on quality.

So What’s New for the 2024 Mazda CX-30

Mazda has added a new trim to the CX-30 lineup for 2024. It’s called the Carbon Turbo and it comes with some pretty cool features, like a unique Zircon Sand paint job, black-painted wheels, and Terracotta-colored leather upholstery. As the name suggests, the Carbon Turbo is powered by a 250-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. So if you’re looking for a little more oomph in your SUV, this might be the trim for you!

Performance

The CX-30 comes with two engine options. The standard engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 191 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The optional engine is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that provides a whopping 250 horsepower. If you enjoy driving the Mazda 3 hatchback, you’ll love the CX-30’s nimble, athletic, and fun-to-drive nature. Its precise steering and fluid body movements make it a joy to maneuver on twisty roads and give a sense of security when cruising. The CX-30 takes 8.1 seconds to reach 60 mph, which is slower than some rivals, but much faster than other non-turbocharged SUVs. However, with the optional turbocharged engine, it can reach 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds.

Fuel Efficiency

I thought you might also be interested to know that the CX-30 comes in two engine options. The non-turbo version has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 191 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This version gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 26 city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. On the other hand, the turbocharged version has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 250 horsepower. This version gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 22 city, 30 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. Our CX-30 Premium test vehicle was able to match its EPA rating of 31 mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route.

Inside the Mazda CX-30

The interior of the CX-30 is very attractive and well-crafted, similar to that of the Mazda 3. The dashboard features an infotainment display controlled by a rotary knob on the center console, with climate-control buttons dividing the upper and lower panels. The audio system can be upgraded to eight or 12 speakers, and there’s an option for heated front seats. The top-spec Premium trim offers leather upholstery, a power-operated rear liftgate, and other luxury features that put the CX-30 on par with higher-end brands like the Lexus UX and Mini Countryman. While it may not be the most spacious SUV, we were able to fit six carry-on suitcases behind the rear seats and 16 total with the rear seats folded.
