A Few Reasons to Fall in Love with the 2018 Mazda CX-5

Red Mazda CX-5 SUV

After visiting a Honda dealership, I decided to stop by a nearby Mazda dealership on a whim. To my surprise, there were two Mazda dealerships close to my home. The salesperson at Liberty Mazda in Wakefield, Massachusetts, was very helpful and quickly arranged for me to test drive a top-trim CX-5 with the Touring Premium Package. From the moment I sat in the driver’s seat, I knew this was the car for me. The CX-5 looked and felt more premium and sportier than other cars I had considered. Here are the top five things I’ve loved about the Mazda CX-5 since the day I first laid eyes on it, and even now, about a month after purchasing it.

Mazda CX-5’s Beautiful Color

The first CX-5 I saw at the dealership was black, but I had just come from a black car and didn’t want to deal with the dirt that accumulates on dark cars during New England winters. So, I asked the salesperson about other available colors. That’s when I saw the Soul Red Crystal Metallic, and I was blown away. The salesperson explained how the color was specially applied, and it really makes the CX-5 stand out with its shimmering effect. When combined with the white interior, the red color makes the car look and feel special.

Heated Steering Wheel

My previous car, a BMW, had a heated steering wheel, and it quickly became one of my favorite premium features. So, when I was considering the Honda CR-V, I almost dismissed it because it didn’t have this feature. However, the CX-5 surprised me with a heated steering wheel that is just as warm and comfortable. Now I don’t have to wear gloves on chilly mornings when I head out to work.

Adaptive Headlights

One of the coolest features of the CX-5 that I didn’t even know about until I drove it at night a few days after owning it is the headlights that turn with the car. They swivel back and forth as I turn, which has significantly improved my visibility on the road. It’s amazing how such a small feature can make such a big difference in driving at night.

Smooth Transit

When I was considering the CX-5, I assumed that a BMW vehicle that cost 50% more five years ago would have a noticeably better ride quality, and I would have to “settle” for less in a car from Mazda. However, after test driving the CX-5, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it felt smoother and sportier to me, and quieter than my previous BMW. The BMW had a great ride, which was one of its best features, but I don’t miss it one bit. The new CX-5 feels just as good or even better to me, and it’s significantly quieter to my ears.

Seating

The seats in my 2013 BMW were supposed to be leather, but they didn’t feel like real leather. They felt artificial and not very comfortable. However, the leather seats in my new CX-5 are incredibly soft and comfortable. I think a lot of the new car smell comes from the leather Mazda uses. The seats are easy to adjust and have two memory settings, which is a nice feature. The white color of the seats also brightens up the interior of the car, which I love.

Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase of the CX-5. If possible, I hope to check back in with Torque News over time and share my experience with the car. If there are any Mazda owners out there who have tips on features I might be overlooking, please let me know in the comments.
