4 Reasons to Pay Attention to Mazda This Year

Mazda is looking to have one of its most successful years yet. With the ongoing chip shortage, many automakers have had to pause or postpone either features, updates, or worse, car preorders. While Mazda has suffered some of these setbacks, the Japanese automaker has made record sales given their engaging and stylish SUVs like the CX-5 and CX-30. Lately, the automaker has been teasing new models like the CX-50 and CX-60. Mazda has also released its first EV, the MX-30. With so much to offer, Mazda has something for everyone. As such, we’ll be listing several reasons why consumers and competitors should be on the watch for the automaker this upcoming year.

1) New CX-50 & CX-60 Crossover

One of the main reasons to watch Mazda in 2022 is for the upcoming CX-50 and CX-60. Mazda recently stated that they want to release three new SUVs by the end of 2023. It’s clear they intend to keep that promise as these two SUVs will reshape the SUV sphere. Mazda has already taken a large share of the SUV sector as they were rated number 1 overall in the industry by Consumer Reports. Plus, all of their vehicles received a ‘Recommended’ rating. The CX-50 is a direct competitor to brands like Subaru and Jeep as the crossover SUV serves as a more rugged model than the traditional Mazda vehicle. The CX-60 is another SUV to watch as Mazda has stated that it will be equipped with Mazda’s new turbocharged engine. We’ll have to wait for that third SUV, but it seems Mazda is determined to gain even more control over the SUV sector.

2) New Alabama Plant

The second reason to keep Mazda in mind is that the automaker recently finished constructing a new car manufacturing plant in Alabama. Given the ongoing shortages, this is a huge plus for the Japanese automaker as the plant is expected to produce up to 150,000 vehicles annually. 

3) Safety

Another reason Mazda is poised to be a big contender for 2022 is its safety ratings. One of the most important features consumers look for when purchasing an automobile are safety standards. As far as Mazda is concerned, they have some of the safest vehicles according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). As of the latest report, Mazda’s CX-5 was the only vehicle to earn the highest score of ‘Good.’

4) MX-30

One more important reason to watch Mazda is the MX-30. The all-electric SUV has received mixed reviews, but this is mainly due to the battery capacity. Currently, the MX-30 has an underwhelming 100 miles of battery range. Once Mazda equips the electric SUV with a range extender and the rumored rotary engine, the MX-30 will become an especially viable vehicle. Mazda also plans to make a PHEV version of the MX-30 available, so for those interested, this will be a great improvement to an otherwise engaging and environmentally-friendly vehicle. We’ll have to see what other automakers come up with, but given Mazda’s strong points this year, it may be tough to compete.
