2025 Mazda CX-70 Set to Debut Soon

Mazda planned to release the CX-70 in late 2023 as a two-row SUV for the 2024 model year. However, about six months ago, the Japanese automaker shifted gears, revealing that the new entry in a segment it had yet to venture into for over a decade would face a slight delay to early spring of this year (2024). Notably, the 2024 model year transitioned to 2025 following the pattern of Mazda’s recent major launches—the CX-50 hit the scene in early 2022 as a 2023 model, while the CX-90 arrived in early 2023 as a 2024 offering.

The much-anticipated date has finally leaked to the masses, thanks to a discovery by avid Mazda fans. Fans revealed an image of the SUV under wraps, inviting visitors to “Join us as we unveil the first-ever Mazda CX-70” on January 30 (2024) at 11 a.m. EST.

Speculations suggest the midsize Mazda could be a widebody version of the CX-60 sold in Europe, powered by the same engines found in the CX-90. Recent findings also revealed documents filed by Mazda with the California Air Resources Board detailing CX-70 powertrains. These documents outline two variants of a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder plug-in hybrid. Both versions may feature an eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive, although power and torque figures are still unknown. In the CX-90, the top 3.3-liter engine delivers 340 horsepower and 369 lb-feet of torque on premium fuel, while the second option produces 280 hp and 332 lb-ft. The 2.5-liter PHEV generates a combined 323 hp and 369 lb-ft, with an estimated electric range of 26 miles.

Considering the CX-50’s starting price of just over $30,000 and the CX-90’s starting price is shy of over $40,000, there’s a natural MSRP range for the CX-70. This new model may embody a distinct attitude and dynamics. Described as “the fun and fashionable choice,” the CX-50, and after a First Drive of the CX-90, it earned praise for its “excellent driving dynamics, classy interiors, strong powertrains, and good value.” The anticipation is high for January 30 (2024), as Mazda unveils the CX-70 with promising ingredients that could make it a standout in its segment.
